How do your citrus products stay fresh without pasteurization?

mixed.jpg (14540 bytes)Citrus is a closed system. Fruit remains fresh after being taken off the tree because it contains its own natural preservative - citric acid. No bacteria can get into the fruit because the skin keeps it out. With our method of cleansing the fruit, peeling it before squeezing, bottling at low temperatures and filling the juice to the cap, we create another closed system for the fruit. The four enemies of fresh squeezed products are oxygen, bacteria, heat and peel oil. We deal with these enemies in these ways:

  1. Gravity fillers cap our product without trapping in oxygen.
  2. We maintain low temperatures in the processing room at the plant since bacteria survive above 32 degrees and grow rapidly above 30 degrees for bottling. Citric juices do not freeze at this temperature because of their natural sugar and citric acid content.
  3. Our sanitation of the fruit and removal of the peel before squeezing virtually eliminates all peel oil and dirt from the fruit, thus giving us a clean product.
  4. NBI uses refrigerated trucks with 24 hour communication and on board computers connected to temperature alarms wired to our corporate computer. We document delivery temperatures.
  5. GPS technology allows NBI to keep track of its trucks exact locations at all times to correct any unscheduled delays at time of occurrence.
  6. Proprietary software has been developed specifically for keeping juices fresh and in stock. No other juice company keeps better records of its clients juice usage and needs.

What is the shelf life?

Typically 21 days provided the product maintained a temperature of 32-38 degrees. Some products have a longer shelf life, but all require cold temperatures.

How do products come packed?

In disposable containers. Gallons, half gallons, quarts, pints and half pints.

What about the E-Coli virus?

This virus cannot grow in citrus products except apple juice. Apple juice has always been a pasteurized product by Natural Brands Inc. for this reason.

What other product lines do you carry?

Margarita mix, condensed lemonades, fresh squeezed orange juice, grapefruit juice, lemon juice, lime juice, lemonade and limeade. Pasteurized apple cider and smoothies. We also carry Plugra butter, a large assortment of domestic and imported puree's, and we do special requests. For more information on purees, we will be adding a new web site naturalpuree.com in the near future.

What are Smoothies?

Smoothies are a mix or juices that give consumers many nutrients per unit. They are a type of replacement meal. With a 12 oz. container you can drink the juice of several fruits or vegetables. They taste great.

How much space is required?

Our cases stack on top of each other so that very little space is needed to store them.

How often can you deliver?

We will set up a custom schedule to fit your company's needs. We are available with short notice should there be a shortage of product or any other problems. NBI has its own fleet of refrigerated trucks with team drivers, as well as contract carriers. We are extremely flexible.

What would a retail display look like?

That depends on the customer and volumes. Below is a picture of a grocery store display with a large consumer choice. Fresh Squeezed OJ, Grapefruit juice, Apple Cider, Lemonade, Smoothies, etc.
